Holy water plays a large part in the Easter celebration. As Catholics, we use it to bless ourselves and others. It reminds us that we are baptized. We always dip our hands in the holy water font at church and make the sign of the cross. You can also make small holy water fonts to place in your home.
Start with a small jar, such as a baby food jar. Let your children decorate it with paint. Use appropriate symbols or patterns. After it has dried, take it to church and ask your pastor for some holy water and put it in the jar. Let the kids ask the priest why the water is holy and how it was blessed.
Place the jar somewhere in your home. Perhaps you can place it near where you enter the home, to bless yourselves when you enter like you do at church. Or use it on holidays to bless the table or the people you are celebrating with. However you use it, always remind your children that the holy water helps them remember that they are baptized into the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
