I find quotes from saints very helpful. We tend to think our problems are new or unique, but chances are somebody has found themselves in a similar situation. So why not look to the holy people who came before us and see what they say?
I was speaking to somebody recently about our youth group and the difficulty of recruiting in new kids. I would love to bring our programs to a much larger group of kids. But that doesn’t seem to be happening.
Then I came across this quote from St. Augustine:
Since you cannot do good to all, you are to pay special attention to those who, by the accidents of time, or place, or circumstances, are brought into closer connection with you.
So while I won’t stop recruiting or trying to get new teens in the group, it is good to remember that I do have a few wonderful youth who want to participate. So I will pay attention to them and help them have the best youth group they can.
